Louise White Brewer Pickard

Obituary Date: Monday, September 1, 2014

Louise White Brewer Pickard, age 92, on September 1, 2014 after a brief illness. Louise was born on November 24, 1921 and raised in Gainesville, GA. She was the daughter of Thurman A. Sr. and Nell Elizabeth White, Gainesville, GA.

Memorial services will be held on Thursday, September 4th at 3:00 p.m. in the chapel of Little & Davenport Funeral Home. The family will receive friends from 1:00 p.m. until the service hour at the funeral home. Dr. Jerry Gill will officiate with interment to follow in the Alta Vista Cemetery.

Louise graduated from Gainesville High School and always liked getting together with her "red elephant" classmates and planning reunions. Many of those friendships lasted her whole life. In 1953, while working at the Hall County Hospital (as it was then called), Louise was asked by Dr. Henry S. Jennings to help him open his new practice in Gainesville. As his very first employee, Louise was not only his secretary and bookkeeper, but also his nurse and lab technician until his new employees were hired to fill those positions. Dr. Samuel O. Poole, Dr. Warren Stribling, and Dr. James A. Butts soon joined them. Louise continued to be the bookkeeper and office manager as new doctors and employees were added. That doctor's office is now known as the Northeast Georgia Diagnostic Clinic. She retired from the clinic in 1989. When at the clinic for an office visit, she always loved telling employees that she was retired from there and was the very first employee. Louise was famous among friends and family for her cooking, especially her divinity that never, ever failed. She loved family gatherings and spending time with her grandchildren.

Louise was preceded in death by her husband of 55 years, George; her parents; her brother and sister in law, T.A. Jr and Louise Waters White; and her sisters, Mary Nell White and Hazel White Newman.

Louise is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Vicki Brewer Lester and James D. Lester, Gainesville; daughter Sarah Pickard, Gainesville; son and daughter-in-law, Larry A. Brewer and Jane Bailey Brewer, Lakemont, GA; grandchildren, David M. Lester of Kennesaw, Ga. Mark S. Lester , Nong Khai, Thailand, Karen Brewer McCarthy, Cumming, GA, Robert T. Brewer, Cape Girardeau, MO; sister in law, Margaret Pickard Sirvis, Chapel Hill; nieces, Lynn Newman McCraine, Gainesville, Nancy Newman Christy San Diego, CA Jackie Newman Minaglia, La Jolla, CA, Barbara Pickard Sirvis, South Burlington, VT; seven great-grandchildren, great-nieces and nephews

and her beloved friends.

The family is grateful for the care and support provided to Louise by Dr. Thomas Murray and Crystal, Dr. Robert Ferguson and Patty, employees at the Diagnostic Clinic, the staff at the Medical Center, the staff at Dogwood Forest and at Smoky Springs Retirement Village. The family is also very grateful to the staff of Hospice of Northeast Georgia Medical Center, Southern Companions and Helping Hands.
