James Luther Johnson McBath

James Luther Johnson "Jim" McBath Sr., 95, of Carnesville, passed away Sunday afternoon at his home.
Born April 28, 1919, in Carnesville, he was the son of the late James Luther and Mary Elizabeth McCay McBath Sr. He was the husband of the late Emma Lula Kay Patat McBath. He was the brother of the late Ollie McBath and Martha Pollett; grandfather of the late Nathan Patat; and brother-in-law to the late Carey Pollett, Thomas Kay, Gwyndol & Sarah Phillips, Jim & Nell Husky, Jimmy & Peggy Carey, Ed & Jean Holmes, Fred Skelton, Sarah Beggs Kay and David Nix. He served as the postmaster of Carnesville from 1950 until 1975. He was a 32nd degree mason with Carnesville Masonic Lodge. A US Army Veteran of the World War II, he earned three bronze stars in the New Guinea and Philippine Liberation. He was a devoted member of the Hopewell Presbyterian Church where he served as church elder and clerk of session.
Survivors include; his two sons, George Patat, and Jim McBath Jr., both of Carnesville, GA, two daughters, Kay Patat, of Chattanooga, TN, and Mary McBath of Carnesville, GA; eleven grandchildren, Sandra Feizi, Eric Patat, Matt Thomas, Kurt Patat, Amy Hanley, Glen West, Jamey McBath, Anna Shelton, Kerah Farley, Julie Lukos, and Miles McBath; and thirteen great-grandchildren; four brothers-in-laws, Toombs Kay Jr., Pawley's Island, SC, John Kay, Young Harris, GA, Terry Kay, Athens, GA and Gary Kay, Royston, GA; and two sister-in-laws, Betty Kay Skelton, Royston, GA, and Patsy Kay Nix, Aiken SC.
Services will be Wednesday afternoon at 2pm at the Hopewell Presbyterian Church with Rev Joe Renfro.. Interment will be in the church cemetery.
The body is at the Ginn Funeral Home. The family is at the home. They will receive friends from 6 until 9pm Tuesday evening at the funeral home. Flowers are welcome but those wishing to make memorials please do so to the Hopewell Presbyterian Church, 1660 Akin Road, Martin, Georgia 30557.
