Maurice L. Cash

Mr. Maurice L. Cash, age 86 of 52 Circle M Drive, Toccoa, Georgia entered into eternal rest on Saturday, September 6, 2014 at the Northeast Georgia Medical Center after a courageous and hard fight with cancer.

The oldest son of the late Noel and Katie Kesler Cash, he was born April 21, 1928 in Stephens County, Georgia, having lived all his life in the Tates Creek Community and Stephens County and was well known for his humble spirit, kind heart and gentle words of wisdom. He was a graduate of Eastanollee High School and Letourneau Technical School. He retired from Wabco as Plant Superintendent with 35 years of service. He also worked for the State of Georgia Department of Technical and Adult Education Quick Start Program at Lanier Technical College. He served as a consultant and instructor at Lanier Technical College, traveling to countries including Germany, Switzerland, and Japan, Austria as well as many states within the United States.

He was preceded in death by his first wife, Bennie Sue Wilkinson Cash, his daughter, Linda Cash and by his son, Michael Cash. Maurice was a devoted father to Linda who passed away in 2002 and Michael who passed away in 2004. Even after the deaths of both his children, Maurice's faith in his Savior did not wavier. He remained steadfast in his faith.

Maurice was a life long member of Lamar Christian Church in Baldwin and served his church in numerous positions. At the time of his death, he was the Chairman of the Board of Elders of the church, was a former member of the Toccoa Lions Club and active member of the Stephens County Cattlemen's Association. He also served as a member of the Stephens County Board of Education having been elected to serve two terms in office.

Maurice was a gifted gardener. He grew beautiful fruits and vegetables every year and took great pleasure in sharing the bounties of his garden with family, friends and neighbors. He loved farming. He and his brother could be seen any and all hours of the day working in the fields, baling hay, mending fences or making preparations for the annual corn patch in the bottoms and other crops. He was an avid NASCAR and Georgia Bulldog fan.

Survivors include his devoted wife and soul mate of 57 years, Emily Meeks Cash of the home; brother and sister-in-law, Vernon and Annelle Cash of Toccoa; daughter-in-law, Pat Cash of Toccoa; grandchildren, Mickey Cash and his wife Becky and Trent Cash and his wife Kellie both of Toccoa; great-grandchildren, Dylan, Colter, Ava and Jackson Cash of Toccoa; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Rev. Douglas and Pat Meeks of Atlanta; and a number of nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be Tuesday, September 9, 3 O'clock PM at Lamar Christian Church with Pastor Chad Holcomb and the Reverend Jerrell Beatty officiating. The following gentlemen will serve as pallbearers, Sam Meeks, Matt Sharpe, Kenneth Cash, Steve Cash, Tony Thomas and Russell Vandiver.
The family will be at the home and will receive friends at the Acree-Davis Funeral Home on Monday from 2 PM to 4 PM and 6 PM to 8 PM.

The family respectfully requests that flowers be optional. Memorials may be made to Lamar Christian Church, 3247 Georgia Hwy. 105, Baldwin, Georgia 30511 in memory of Mr. Maurice L. Cash.

Interment will be in the Lamar Christian Church Cemetery with the Acree-Davis Funeral Home in charge of the arrangements for Mr. Maurice L. Cash.
