Robert E. Lee Roper

Obituary Date: Thursday, September 18, 2014
Alexander Funeral Home of Cleveland announces the death of Mr. Robert E. Lee Roper, age 97 of Cleveland. Mr. Roper passed away Thursday, September 18, 2014. Funeral services are scheduled for 2:00pm, Saturday, September 20, 2014 in the funeral home chapel with Rev. Michael Clark officiating. Interment will follow in Mt. Pleasant United Methodist Church Cemetery.
Robert was born in White County on September 25, 1916 to the late Newton Candler Roper and Emma Josephine Thomas. He entered the United States Army in 1942, serving with honor , receiving Asiatic-Pacific Medal , the American Service Medal and the World War II Victory Medal. Following his military service, Robert returned to White County where he worked as a automobile mechanic, as he was known for his knowledge of automobiles. Robert was a member of the American Legion Post # 16, where he had been a continous member for some 40 years. Robert is preceded in death by his sons, Eddie Roper and Gary Roper as well as his daughter, Teresa Roper Sewell. Survivors include his wife, Faye Roper of Cleveland; daughter and son in law, Patricia and Tim Dockery,Cleveland, son and daughter in law Wayne and Sharon Roper, Gainesville sister, Lilly Roper Nix as well as 9 grandchildren and 17 great grandchildren
The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Friday from 6 to 8pm.
