Sherman Lee (Tank) Heaton

Sherman Lee "Tank" Heaton, 79, of Dawsonville passed away Wednesday October 22, 2014 at Northeast Georgia Medical Center following a brief illness.

Born September 11, 1935 in Cullman, Alabama, he has been a resident of Dawson County for the past five years coming from Chiefland, Florida. Mr. Heaton served in the U.S. Air Force for over 20 years and was a Vietnam Veteran. Mr. Heaton also retired from AT&T Pardyne. He served on the Board of Directors of the Vietnam Veterans of America, Dawson County Chapter #970 and was preceded in death by his first wife, Sylvia Heaton, and a son, Anthony Heaton.

Surviving are his wife, Pat Heaton, Dawsonville; children, Janet Berthiaume, North Conway, NH, Dean Heaton, St. Augustine, FL, Michael Heaton, Butzbach, Germany, Carey Poole, Gainesville, Chelsea Milstead, Carrollton, Adam Newsome, Ball Ground; seventeen grandchildren; nine great grandchildren; sisters, Myrna Burleson, Pell City, AL, Marilyn Sellers, Mt. Olive, AL; brother, Randy Heaton, Birmingham, AL; and Mittens the kitty.

Memorial services will be held Friday October 24, 2014 at 11 o'clock at Bearden Funeral Home Chapel with the Vietnam Veterans of America, Dawson County Chapter # 970 in charge.

The family will receive friends 30 minutes prior to the service.
