William Ivy Capps, Sr.

Mr. William Ivy Capps passed away peacefully at Northeast Georgia Medical Center on Sunday November 9, 2014 following a long illness.

Born in Blackshear, Ga. on June 12, 1934 he was the son of the late Ollie and Dorothy Dean Capps. Mr. Capps spent most of his adult life as a firefighter in the Jacksonville, FL area. He served as Chief of the Wesconnet Fire Department and later worked at Mayport Naval Base and Cecil Field Naval Air Station where he retired in 1991. Mr. Capps also worked for the Hall County Fire Department for a short period of time in the mid 1970's. Mr. Capps was a veteran having served in the United States Air Force. He was a member of the Hopewell Baptist Church.

Mr. Capps also worked for a period of time as a correctional officer and was interim Deputy Warden at the Hall County Correctional Institute.

He is survived by his wife of 45 years, Helen Juanita Watson Capps, son William Ivy Capps, Jr., and his wife, Jan; daughter, Judy Wethington and her husband, Bill; grandchildren, Lane and Amber Capps, Billy and Tony Wethington; Mr. Capps is also survived by step daughter, Elaine Joy, stepsons and wives, Stanley and Elaine Sexton; Danny and Karin Sexton; stepson, David Sexton.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday November 11, 2014 in the chapel of Little & Davenport Funeral Home. Rev. Gary Wilson and Rev. Dwight Joy will officiate. Interment will follow in the Memorial Park Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Monday November 10, 2014 from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m.
