Sue Swift Smith, 83, of Gainesville, daughter of Elmo and Nancy Swift, passed away peacefully in the early morning hours of Saturday, January 10, 2015.
Known to her grandchildren as Nanny, Sue was a Gainesville High School Red Elephant graduate of 1949.
Mrs. Smith was a native of Gainesville and a devoted mother, grandmother and great-grandmother who loved community and her church, Lakewood Baptist.
Well known in the community for working many years at Jane's Dress Shop in Gainesville, Sue and her late husband of 55 years, Harold "Bo" Smith, were also actively involved in youth sports in Gainesville for many years.
As member of Lakewood Baptist Church since 1958, Mrs. Smith spent close to 30 years caring for toddlers in the preschool department. Most recently, she could be found every Sunday morning greeting worshippers at Lakewood with a warm hug and a friendly hello.
Survivors include her sons and daughters in-law, Jimmy and Patsy Smith, Gainesville, Mike and Cindy Smith, Alpharetta, and daughter, Suzanne McClanahan of Kennesaw. Grandchildren Jay and Kelly Smith, Flowery Branch, Kimi and Eric Radich, Gainesville, Anna Kate Smith, Alpharetta, and Chad McClanahan, Kennesaw, and 3 great grandchildren.
The family will receive friends at Little and Davenport funeral home Sunday, January 11 from 2pm
