James Herbert Gravitt

Obituary Date: Saturday, January 17, 2015
Mr. James Herbert Gravitt age 94 of Gainesville passed away on Saturday January 17, 2015 at Northeast Georgia Medical Center following a brief illness.
Funeral services are scheduled for Tuesday January 20, 2015 at 11:00 a.m. in the Chapel of Memorial Park Funeral Home with interment to follow in Alta Vista Cemetery. Reverend Darryl Womack will officiate. The family will receive friends on Monday January 19, 2015 from 6:00-8:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
Mr. Gravitt was born on July 17, 1920 in Brookton, Ga to the late Walter Newberry Gravitt AND Georgia Charlotte Robertson Gravitt. He retired from Northeast Georgia Medical Center after 41 years of service. He served in World War II with The Army Air Corp, European Theater of Operation. He was a member of the Gideon's Ministry, the Gainesville School Board, and served as a Mended Heart Volunteer. He was a Christian who loved and served Montgomery Memorial Baptist Church from the year of 1942 until his death. He is preceded in death by his parents, his brothers, and sisters.
He is survived by his wife of 72 years, Annie Mae Jones Gravitt of Gainesville, daughter and son-in-law, Sherryl Ann and Lamar Summer of Gainesville, son and daughter-in-law, James David Gravitt and Shirley Adams of Murrayville, son, Daryl Evan Gravitt of Gainesville, 5 grandchildren, and 6 great-grandchildren.
