Dorian Elise David

Obituary Date: Sunday, January 25, 2015

Dorian Elise David passed on January 25th, 2015, at the young age of 53, surrounded by the love of her family and the prayers of her friends. She was born on August 8th, 1961, under the northern lights of Anchorage, Alaska. Dorian was the youngest of five daughters born to her mother Marie Elinor Alston David and her father Lt. Col. Edgar George David.

From her childhood steeped in her mother's love for fishing, berry picking, and camping - and her father's love for walking the lands of his forefathers - Dorian developed a deep appreciation for the beauty of nature. The great outdoors is where Dorian went to find her peace, converse with her Maker, and experienced some of her favorite memories.

As she grew into adulthood her free and passionate spirit became more and more evident. Dorian's artistic abilities on paper and canvas began to shine, laying the groundwork for her to earn a Bachelor of Fine Arts at North Georgia College. Dorian also studied abroad in Italy and later earned a Masters Degree in Art Education from North Georgia College. Her graphic Art is now forever memorialized as the town logo for historic Dahlonega.

In addition to her more artistic endeavors, Dorian also had an immense love for animals, poetry, and was dedicated to the preservation of deserving properties, both God and man made. To these efforts she contributed her time, as well as her amazing energy. Her lifetime collection of poetry has also been honored and cherished by her friends and family and will be for many years to come.

For everyone who knew Dorian, larger than her many talents, endeavors, and achievements; loomed her huge and beautiful heart. She was someone who lived her life doing small things with great love. She gave without expectation of return and showered her loved ones with kind words and thoughtful gifts. Dorian was truly a light in the lives of others, and never did she shine brighter than when she was with her beloved grandchildren. She lived for their smiles and their laughter. Though her time here was short, her love and loyalty to her family, life companions, and friends will forever endure.

She will be greeted in heaven by those whose love she cherished that pre-deceased her; her father and mother, LTC. Edgar George and Marie Alston David; her nephew, William Keith Pounds; and her companion of the last twenty years, Barry Winfred Bailey.

Dorian is survived by her loving son John Brian Macbeth, his fiancé, Ami Bumgardner, and grandchildren Samuel Aiden Bumgardner, Ayla Grace Bumgardner, and Joshua Gavin Bumgardner; Sisters and brothers in law, Dana and Ben LaChance, Claire and Garry Sharp, Melanie David Nelson, and Jennifer David; Uncle and Aunt-in-Law, Doug and Susan David, of Wadmalow Island, SC, Nieces and nephews, Chapin and Naomi LaChance, Helen and George Cartledge, and Taylor and Mayson Hulsey; Great-nieces and nephews, Klayton Cartledge and Jaxon LaChance; and many cousins across the nation on both her father's and mother's sides.

Funeral services will be held Saturday February 7th, 2015 at 2 o'clock pm at the Georgia Mountains Unitarian Universalist Church in Dahlonega, GA. Close friends are invited to visit with family for an afternoon tea. In lieu of flowers please donations may be made to the Bob Owens Art Scholarship Fund at the University of North Georgia (http://ung.edu/visual-arts/scholarships-and-awards.php) or the Dahlonega Arts Council (www.dahlonegaarts.org).
