Bertie Bhree (Bo) Elzey

Obituary Date: Sunday, March 1, 2015

Bertie Bhree (Bo) Elzey, age 91, completed her earthly journey on March 1st at 3:15 PM. She passed at Northeast Medical Center in Gainesville, surrounded by her family. Bo was a member of Friendship Baptist Church, and she and her husband, Grover, raised their five children on Friendship Circle.

Bo was born on December 9th, 1923. She was the sixth child of ten children born to Willie and Hettie (Gilbert) Watson in Cumming, Georgia. Her parents and all her siblings precede her in death. Bo married Grover Gordon Elzey on April 6th, 1940; they were married fifty years before his death in 1991. Two of their five children also precede her in death; Grover Elzey, Jr. and Hugh Elzey. She is survived by her oldest son, Robert Elzey (Joyce), Regina Elzey Cochran (Broughton) and Lisa Ruth Elzey, all of Gainesville, daughters-in-law, Marsha Ledbetter Elzey and Janice Elzey Ghorley and many grand children and great grandchildren. Sister-in-law, Clara Watson and brother-in-law, Quinton Lord. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews.

Bo's porch was always a family gathering place where love and laughter lived. The porch swing and rocking chairs were welcoming and fireflies (lighting bugs) always twinkled on the lawn in summer. The temptation being too great, many lighting bugs were captured by her children and their cousins and placed in a jar for the night. Everyone always felt welcome at her house and there was always activity in the kitchen, where a big table graced the room and Southern hospitality ruled.

Arrangements are entrusted to Ingram Funeral Home & Crematory in Cumming at 210 Ingram Ave. Visitation will be held at the funeral home on Tuesday from 4:00 PM until 7:00 PM with funeral services being held on Wednesday at 3:00 pm in the Chapel of Ingram Funeral Home with Rev.
