Harold L. Garner

Obituary Date: Monday, March 9, 2015


Harold Lee Garner, 88, of Gainesville, GA passed from this life to the next on March 9, 2015 in the presence of his daughters, after a brief battle with leukemia.


He was preceded in death by his wife of 61 years Inez Thurmond Garner, an infant son, Howell S. Garner and by his parents, George T. Garner and Nora K. Bolden.


Mr. Garner was a Christian and a member of Westside Baptist Church for more than 60 years until the church closed in March 2014. He was a deacon and served on many committees. He was lately a member of Chicopee Baptist church.


Mr.Garner served our Nation in the Navy during World War II and was stationed in San Diego, California.


Mr.Garner worked at Chicopee Manufacturing (a Johnson and Johnson Company) for 40 years. He was a supervisor in the spinning room for most of that time.


Mr.Garner is survived by his daughters, Cynthia Garner Millwood and Regina Garner Blackwell both of Gainesville; grandchildren, Caleb Millwood, Gainesville; Annelise Millwood, Stockbridge; Clif Millwood, Mark Millwood, Bryson Millwood, Braselton; and Grace Millwood, Gainesville; brother, Edward Garner, Flowery Branch; brother and sister-in-law, Paul and Dot Garner, Alto; sister, Claudine Martin, Lula. He is also survived by his special friend Rebecca Chavis Harrison.


The family will receive friends at the funeral home Wednesday, March 11, 2015 from 2-4 and 6-8. The celebration of a life well lived will be Thursday, March 12, 2015, 11 a.m. at Chicopee Baptist Church with interment to follow in Memorial Park Cemetery, J.L. Yopp Jr. & Mike Taylor officiating.
