Lyman Henry Smith

Lyman Henry Smith, 74, of Dawsonville passed away Monday March 9, 2015 at Northeast Georgia Medical Center following a period of declining health.

Born March 1, 1941 to the late Glenn E. and Louise Bennett Smith, he was a lifelong resident of Dawson County. Lyman was a devoted husband to his loving wife, Tommie, for 54 years and exemplified a Christian role-model for his children and grandchildren. He served as a deacon of Liberty Baptist Church for 43 years, was a founding member of the Dawson County Jaycees, was instrumental in the forming and building of the Liberty Volunteer Fire Department, and was honorably discharged from the U. S. Army Reserves. Mr. Smith retired from the USDA after 24 years of service followed by twenty years with the Dawson County Tax Assessor's Office. He was also preceded in death by his brother, Paul Smith; mother in law, Robbie Lee Beasley; and sister in law, Peggy Beasley Butler.

He is survived by his wife, Tommie Beasley Smith, Dawsonville; daughter and son in law, Vicki and Grady Turner, Dawsonville; son and daughter in law, Scott and Angie Hammond Smith, Dawsonville; grandchildren, Katie Turner, Walled Lake, MI, Tatum Turner, Tucker Turner, Ethan Smith and Addison Smith, all of Dawsonville; brothers and sisters in law, Gene and Brenda Smith, Lithonia; Terry and Rita Smith, Dawsonville; sister in law, Betty Smith, McDonough; brother in law, Henry Butler, Conyers. Lyman will be missed by many other special relatives and friends.

Funeral services will be held Thursday March 12, 2015 at 2 o'clock at Liberty Baptist Church. Rev. Dennis Bottoms, Rev. Stephen Davis and Rev. Jerry Frazier will officiate. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.

The family will receive friends Wednesday from 1 until 9 at the funeral home.
