John Wyndell Hughes, age 84, of Buford, GA passed away on Monday, March 16, 2015. He was preceded in death by his grandson, Jonathan Zachary Hughes; son-in-law, Mike McCracken; parents, John G. and Eunice Morgan Hughes; brother, Don Hughes; and sisters, Doris Hughes and Ellen Hughes Amerson. He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Kathryn Powell Hughes; children, Cathy Hughes McCracken, Buford, GA, and John Wyndell, Jr. and Donna Hughes, Buford, GA; grandchild, Jordan Leigh Hughes; two great grandchildren, Taylor Madison Hughes and Jonson Zachary Hughes; brother and sister-in-law, Bill and Betty Hughes, Buford, GA; sister-in-law, Sue Harrison Hughes, Buford, GA; and many nieces, nephews and cousins. Mr. Hughes was born April 20, 1930 in Cumming, GA. He was a veteran of the U. S. Navy and retired as Vice President of McIntosh Paving Company after more than 25 years of service. He was a member of New Prospect United Methodist Church, Buford, GA, and former member of Harmony Grove United Methodist Church, Lilburn, GA where he worked with the youth and served on the Board of Trustees at both churches. A celebration of life service is scheduled for Saturday, March 21, 2015 at 11:00 a.m. in the Chapel of Flanigan Funeral Home with Tony Powell delivering the eulogy and Rev. Tom Fish officiating. Interment will follow at New Prospect United Methodist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Friday, March 20, 2015 from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorials would be appreciated to New Prospect United Methodist Church Cemetery Fund, 2018 Buford Dam Road, Buford, GA 30518 in memory of John Wyndell Hughes.
