Samuel MacArthur Cates

Evans Funeral Home announces the death of Mr. Samuel MacArthur “Mack” Cates, age 73 of Jefferson, Georgia who entered into rest Saturday, May 16, 2015.  Mr. Cates was born in Crossville, Alabama, a son of the late Walter Samuel Cates and the late Beatrice Dingler Cates, a U.S. Air Force Veteran of the Vietnam War, member of the Albert Gordon Post 56 of the American Legion, member and past President of the Jefferson Lions Club, and a member of Bethany United Methodist Church.  Mack was a retired health care administrator, an avid Georgia Bulldog Fan and enjoyed playing golf with his two grandsons.  In addition to his parents, he is preceded by a daughter, Christy Cates.

Survivors include his wife, Rebecca Howland Cates of Jefferson, daughter; Cindy Benton and her husband David of Jefferson, two grandsons; Samuel and Christopher Benton of Jefferson.  One brother, Stanley Cates of Tallapoosa, Georgia.
