Robert P. Duncan

Obituary Date: Sunday, June 21, 2015

 

Robert P. Duncan, 87, was born on July 5, 1927 in Miami, FL.

Bob went to be with the Lord on Father’s Day, June 21, 2015.

Bob left high school to serve in the Merchant Marines as a 2nd officer radio controlman on the Liberty Ship Duncan U. Fletcher.

After leaving the Merchant Marines, he returned to Miami to finish high school. In 1946, he joined the army in the signal corps and was honorably discharged in 1948. During his time in the army, he worked on the 1st teletype machine that bounced the first signals off the moon. 

 

Bob served on the Miami Fire Dept. for 22 years and retired in 1971.  After moving to Gainesville, GA he worked at Northeast Georgia Medical Center for 11 years.

 

He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Jean; daughter, Robin Chopra of Kodak, TN; daughter and son in law, Janet and Winston Buttram of Gainesville; grandchildren, Raman Chopra, Sandi Buttram, Romila Gunsallus and husband Corey Gunsallus.

 

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, June 25, 2015 in the chapel of Little & Davenport Funeral Home. Rev. Steve Fenlon and Rev. Rex Long will officiate. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Wednesday, June 24, 2015 from 6:00 p.m. until 8:30 p.m. Interment will be in Copper Ridge Memorial Gardens in Blue Ridge, GA at 2:30 p.m. with Rev. Randall Reed and Rev. Andy Shorthill officiating.
