Mr. John Dee “J.D.” Satterfield, age 94, of Gainesville, GA passed away on Thursday, July 2, 2015. He was preceded in death by his son, David N. Satterfield; parents, John Dee and Jessie Bell Etheridge Satterfield, Jr.; sisters, Helen S. Hulsey and Myrtle S. Allen; brothers, Donald Satterfield and Charlie Satterfield. He is survived by his wife of 69 years, Geneva “Ginny” Freeman Satterfield, Gainesville, GA; children, John C. and Cheryl Satterfield, Gainesville, GA, Candi Satterfield Smith, Duluth, GA, and Joseph D. Satterfield, Cumming, GA; grandchildren, John Chris Satterfield, Jr., Colt Smith, Ross Smith, Chase Smith, and Jennifer Satterfield Boyd; brothers, Jesse and Betty Satterfield, Buford, GA, and Wendell and Betty Jo Satterfield, Hoschton, GA; sisters-in-law, Judy Satterfield, Gillisville, GA, and Genora Freeman Green, Braselton, GA; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. Mr. Satterfield was born October 5, 1920 in Buford, GA. He received his education from Sugar Hill School. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army during WWII. He joined the army December 12, 1942 in Toccoa, GA. He recieved Good Conduct, Combat Infantry Badge, Bronze star with oak leaf cluster, American Distinguish Unit Citation, and numerous other medals of honor. He was in 501st Parachute Infantry Regiment, 101 Air Borne Division. He retired from Chevron Pipeline as a Terminal Operator after 34 and a half years. He was a member of First Baptist Church in Gainesville, GA, and was a former member of Berean Sunday School Class. He was also a member of Hardee’s Breakfast Club in Buford, GA. He was a Mason, and a member of the Chamblee Masonic Lodge number 444. A Celebration of Life service is planned for Sunday, July 5, 2015 at 3:30 p.m. in the Chapel of Flanigan Funeral Home. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 2:30 p.m. to the time of service on Sunday. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to First Baptist Church of Gainesville Building Fund, 751 Green St. Gainesville, GA 30501 in memory of John Dee Satterfield, Jr.
