P.L. Grant, Jr.

P.L. Grant went home to be with the Lord on July 4, 2015 after a brief illness.  Born October 11, 1925, P.L. was a life-long resident of Gainesville, GA, and was married to Betty Jordan for 66 years. 

He was preceded in death by his wife, Betty Grant, mother, Lillie Blanche, father, Preston Lee Grant, Sr.,  son, Michael Terry Grant Sr., sisters Mildred Owen, Pauline Lawrence, Audrey Merritt, and brother Rex Grant.

P.L. was an Emeritus Member of the Order of the Eastern Star Free Masons.  He served in the U.S. Navy where he earned the Distinguished Flying Cross and the Air Medal among many other World War II service medals.  He then served 25 years in the City of Gainesville Police Department retiring with the rank of Captain. 

He was a charter member of Community Baptist Church since 1948.   Then, ordained as a Deacon in August 1957.

He is survived by his grandchildren, Michael and Carol Grant of Sevierville, TN; Cary and Paula Grant of Thornville, OH; Amy and Ron Bessetti of Auburn, GA; Aliza and Martin Gravely of Flowery Branch, GA.  Twelve Great-Grandchildren: Jonathan, Christen, Anna, Ashley, and Sarah Grant; Drew and Julie Grant; Kyle and Julia Grant; Ryan, Marissa, and Madison Bessetti; Martin and Ariel Gravely.

Visitation will be held Tuesday July 7, from 5:00pm to 9:00pm.  The funeral service will be held at 2:00pm Wednesday at Little & Davenport Funeral Home.  Michael Grant will officiate.  Interment will be in Hillside Memorial Gardens.
