Wendell Lamar Harkins

Alexander Funeral Home of Cleveland announces the death of Mr. Wendell Lamar Harkins, age 68 of Cleveland. Mr. Harkins  passed away Monday, August 3, 2015.  He was born in Hall County on March 28, 1947 to the late Everett and Cora Belle Nix Harkins.  Wendell served his country with honor in the United States Marine Corp during the Vietnam War, and loved being a true Marine.  Wendell worked for many years as an inspector for the USDA.    He will be remembered for his generous nature and his willingness to help others, as well as being a loving father and grandfather.
Wendell is survived by his daughter and son in law, Greta and Craig Warwick; grandchildren, Whitney Payne and Abigail and Blake Flanagan; sisters and brothers in law, Nancy and Michael Meaders, Karen and David Kearns, St. Augustine FL and Theresa and Paul Parkins, Enoree S.C.; sister in law Jean Harkins;  nephews and nieces Jason Meaders, BJ and Rachel Meaders, Shanna and Rodney Thompson, Wesley and Amy Sutton, Nathan and Christy Palmer, Vida and David Kenyon, and Lawayne Harkins.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Tuesday, August 04, 2015 from 7 until 9 PM and again on Wednesday, August 05, 2015 from 2 until 4 PM and 6 until 8 PM.  Funeral services will be held in the funeral home chapel on Thursday, August 06, 2015 at 2 PM with the Rev. Gary Hefner officiating.  Interment will follow at Gateway Memory Park with Military Honors being provided by the White County Honor Guard.
In lieu of flowers the family has asked that memorial donations be made to the Wounded Warrior Project, P.O. Box 758517, Topeka, Kansas 66675.
