J. B. Brewer, Jr., age 83, of Cornelia, GA, passed away on Sunday, August 30, 2015.
Mr. Brewer was born in Hall County, Georgia, on March 29, 1932 to the late James Benjamin Brewer, Sr. and Clara Jones Brewer. He was also preceded in death by his son, Rick Brewer; brothers, Vernon Brewer and Winfred Brewer. Mr. Brewer was a member of First Baptist Church of Cornelia, where he served as deacon, usher, and a member of the Tuesday Work Crew. He was a United States Army Korean Conflict Veteran. Mr. Brewer was a retired manager of City Plumbing & Electric with 40 years of service. He was a long time member of the Habersham County Rotary Club and Woodmen of the World. Mr. Brewer was a former member of the Habersham Medical Center Board of directors. He was also a member and former general manager of the Chattahoochee Mountain Fair Board. He also sold funnel cakes for a number of years at the Fourth of July Celebration in Demorest.
He is survived by his loving wife of 64 years, Alma Shirley Brewer, Cornelia, GA; daughter, Marie Hutchens, Cornelia, GA; daughter and son-in-law, Elizabeth and Terry Porter, Cornelia, GA; sister and brother-in-law, Pat and Bill Savage, Demorest, GA; sister, Sue Thomason, Jackson, GA; brother and sister-in-law, Danny and Mary Brewer, Baldwin, GA; ten grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; special friend, Carroll Segers, Cornelia, GA.
Funeral Services are scheduled for 3:00 PM, Wednesday, September 2, 2015 at Whitfield Funeral Home, North Chapel, with Dr. Eric Spivey officiating. Interment will follow in the Yonah Memorial Gardens with full military honors provided by Grant Reeves VFW Post #7720, Habersham County American Legion #84, and Rabun County DAV #15.
The family will receive friends at Whitfield Funeral Home, North Chapel from 6:00 PM – 8:00 PM on Tuesday, September 1, 2015 and from 1:30 pm until the funeral hour on the day of the service.
