Jack Douglas Curlee

Jack Douglas Curlee, 93, of Atlanta, GA, died peacefully on September 10, 2015, surrounded by his loving family. Jack was born to George Douglas Curlee and Lottie Isabel Robinson Curlee in Birmingham, AL on March 22, 1922.

Growing up in Birmingham, Jack graduated from Ensley High School. He later graduated from Auburn University where he played varsity baseball and briefly played minor league baseball with the Boston Red Sox prior to his entry into military service. Jack proudly served his country as a naval officer aboard USS LST-78 in the Pacific during World War II. Jack was retired from Rexnord Corporation where he had a lengthy career in sales management.

While living in Homewood, AL, Jack served as a councilman for the City of Homewood and was active in the Optimist Club. He served as a Deacon and was Sunday School Superintendent of Dawson Memorial Baptist Church. While living in Jacksonville, FL, Jack served as a Deacon of Riverside Baptist Church. After moving to Atlanta, Jack became a longtime member of Dunwoody Baptist Church, the JOY Sunday School class, and his beloved men’s group, the Romeos.

Jack was preceded in death by his parents, his brother, George Brooks Curlee, his sister-in-law, Virginia Goodwin Curlee, and his nephew, Robert Brooks Curlee, all of Birmingham, AL.

Jack is survived by his loving wife of 67 years, Mollie Frances Holland Curlee; children, Rebecca Curlee Menetre (Larry) of Alpharetta,GA; Nancy Curlee Silverfield (Joel) of Tampa,FL and Stephen Douglas Curlee (Patricia Viktor), of Franklin,TN. He is also survived by his adored grandchildren: Katherine Curlee Hamblen (Brian) of Nashville,TN; Daniel Holland Silverfield (Kathleen Shevlin) of London,UK; John Irwin Silverfield of Naples,FL; Matthew Douglas Curlee of Franklin,TN; Charles Delashaw Silverfield of Washington,D.C. and nephew, William Whitten Curlee of Pelham,AL.

A private family interment service will be held at a later date in Birmingham, AL.
