Janie Ash Brown

Obituary Date: Tuesday, September 22, 2015

Mrs. Janie Ash Brown departed this “vale of tears” on Tuesday, September 22, 2015 for a much better place after a courageous battle with cancer. She was born in Gainesville, GA and graduated from South Hall High School. After becoming a military wife, she traveled the United States from Arizona to Florida, Idaho to South Carolina, from North Dakota to New Mexico and Nevada and many places between. Wherever her family was stationed, she always found a local church where she would sing to the glory of God and work with local children. After their retirement, the family moved back to Gainesville and joined Blackshear Place Baptist Church where she was active in the choir and again worked with children. She never met a child she did not love as she loved her own children and grandchildren. She is survived by her husband of 49 years, Lt. Col. Jerry Brown, USAF (Ret.), sons, Doug and Jason and daughter, Julie. Also, Jason’s wife, Christine and Julie’s husband John McNeal and grandsons, Hunter Brown and Josiah McNeal, her mother Mrs. Teeny Ash, sisters, Nancy Martin and Evelyn Trifiletti, brother, Bob Ash and Nancy’s husband, Ellis Martin. Several aunts and uncles and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews also survive. She loved her God, her family, her Country, and every Child she ever met. Her smile would light up the darkest day and she will be missed.

The family would like to thank Halcyon Hospice Group for their care during Janie’s last few weeks and the Direct Care Center for their love and care over the last few years.

In lieu of flowers please make a donation in Janie’s name to any children’s ministry of your choice.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday, September 24, 2015 at 11:00 a.m. in the Chapel of Memorial Park Funeral Home with interment to follow in Memorial Park Cemetery.  Reverend Dave Chanell will officiate. The family will receive friends on Wednesday, September 23, 2015 from 6-8 p.m. at the funeral home.
