Carolyn Grogan Townsend, one of the Lord’s most devoted, passed away on September 26, 2015. For 10 years Carolyn walked with dignity, was clothed in strength and laughed at the days to come knowing her faith would carry her through a 10 year battle with cancer. Her courage, dignity and unwavering faith has made a lasting impression on all who know and love her.
Carolyn adored her family and enjoyed Sundays at Grandma & Papa Grogan’s commemorating birthdays and holidays together, and celebrating weddings and births. Aside from her family, Carolyn loved serving First Baptist Church Cumming as part of the Agape Sunday School Class and Kathy Jolly Circle, and cooking countless biscuits for church events. She had a great appreciation for everyone else’s cooking and was revered by her family for her Mac & Cheese. After they both retired, Carolyn and Larry enjoyed traveling extensively through the US and abroad with their friends from church, even during times of illness.
Above all, Carolyn was kind and loving to everyone and always believed in making others feel valued. Her legacy will live on with her loving husband of 48 years, Lawrence D. (Larry) Townsend; her cherished daughter and son-in-law Lora and Chris Brooks; and the ones who brought her the most joy, her grandchildren, Chatham, Clayton and Mary Caroline Brooks; also by her brothers and sisters-in-law, Gene & Linda Grogan, Glenn & Joanna Grogan, Jim Grogan; her sister and brother-in-law Linda & Michael Echols; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, Clay & Lora Grogan.
A celebration of Carolyn’s life will be held on Tuesday, September 29th at 11:00 a.m., First Baptist Church Cumming, GA. The family will receive friends on Monday, September 28th from 2-5 p.m. and again from 6-8 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to First Baptist Church Cumming Missions Fund.
