Albert Matthews Thompson

Obituary Date: Thursday, October 22, 2015

Albert Matthews Thompson, age 87, of Alpharetta, Ga. died October 22, 2015. He was born June 11, 1928 at his home in Thomaston Georgia. Albert graduated from R.E. Lee Institute in 1945? attended Baylor School, Chattanooga, TN in 1946, and graduated from the University of Georgia in 1950 where he played football under Coach Wally Butts from 1947 until 1950. He entered the United States Air Force as a 2nd  Lt. in 1951 and was stationed at Shepherd Air Force Base, Texas, and Robins Air Force Base in Georgia. He volunteered for Korea in 1952. While in Korea, he contracted polio in 1953. After his recovery, he attended University of Georgia once again, majoring in Agriculture. In 1956 he moved back to Thomaston and founded Flintrock Chicken Farm. In 1965, he moved to Atlanta and pursued a successful career in the real estate business. In 1998 he retired and returned to Athens, GA.

He was preceded in death by wives, Carolyn Arnold Thompson and Nancy Butts Thompson? parents, Martha Mathews Thompson and Charlie Green Thompson? brother, Nathan Bayliss Thompson? sister, Josephine Matthews Thompson.

Survivors include his daughters, Marty (Curt) Robinson, Lookout Mountain, GA? Lynn (Joe Ed) Franks, Alpharetta, GA? sons, Charles William (Kathy) Thompson, Red Springs, NC? Tony A. (Nancy) Thompson, both of Roswell, GA Matt (Carol) Thompson, Dawsonville, GA? Nathan (Marty) Thompson? first wife, Terry Mathews of Thomaston, GA? eleven grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Memorial services will be held Friday, October 30, 2015 at 10:00 a.m., Arlington Memorial Park Chapel, with Rev. Bill Britt officiating.
