Helen “Granny” Light

Obituary Date: Thursday, November 12, 2015

Helen “Granny” Light, 88, of Oakwood went home to be with our Lord on November 12, 2015 following a sudden illness.

 

She was born and raised in Hall County, Georgia, the second oldest daughter of the late Lester T. and Abia Reed. She graduated from Oakwood High School. Soon after high school, she met the love of her life, G.E. Light. Throughout her life, she was a loving and faithful daughter, wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She truly loved people and never met a stranger.

 

Accepting Christ at a young age, her love and trust in the Lord continued to grow throughout her lifetime. She was a lifelong member of First Baptist Church Oakwood where she served in various ministries serving others.

 

She was preceded in death by her husband, Gladston “G.E.” Light; parents, Lester T. and Abia Reed; sister, Patsy Reed; brother, Raymond “Doty” Reed; brother and sister-in-law, Tom and Helen Reed; sister and brother-in-law, Betty and Ernest Morris; brother-in-law, David Crumley; and daughter-in-law, Martha Light; as well as generations of family and friends to welcome her in heaven.

 

Surviving family members include son and daughter-in-law, David and Irma Light; daughter and son-in-law, Pam and David Turk; daughter and son-in-law, Patti and Mitch Taylor; grandsons, Kevin Light, Blake (and Kelly) Light, Jesse (and Allison) Turk, Michael (and Ashley) Turk, Zachary (and Alyson) Abernathy, Andrew Abernathy, and Phil Abernathy; granddaughters, Emily Turk (and Courtney) Simmons, Christina Abernathy (and Dustin) Cleveland, and Mary Turk (and Adam) Bess; sister, Rachel Crumley; brother- and sister-in-law, Harold and Jackie Light; sister- and brother-in-law, Mary and Richard McCrary; sister-in-law, Janice Stever; 14 great-grandchildren; many nieces, nephews, and extended family; and her beloved pet dog, companion, and protector, Sally.

The family will receive friends at Little & Davenport Funeral Home in Gainesville on, Saturday, November 14, 2015, from 2:00 p.m. until 4:00 p.m. and from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m.

Her funeral service will be led by Rev. Steve Fenlon and Rev. Randall Reed at First Baptist Church Oakwood, 3780 Old Oakwood Rd, Oakwood GA, on Sunday, November 15, 2015, at 3:30 p.m. followed by a graveside service at Oakwood Cemetery.
