John C. Newell, age 87, of Buford, GA and the Friendship Community passed away on Friday, November 13, 2015. He was preceded in death by his wife of forty-one years, Evelyn Roberts Newell. He is survived by his children, Chris Newell, Pigeon Forge, TN and Carol Newell, Pigeon Forge, TN; sister-in-law, Betty Jean Whiting, Sugar Hill, GA; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. Mr. Newell was born October 12, 1928 in Flowery Branch, GA. He received his education in Hall County School System. He was a veteran of the U. S. Army. He was retired from General Motors Assembly Plant after forty years of service and was a member of the U. A. W. Local 10. He was a member, former deacon and Sunday school teacher of Friendship Community Baptist Church in Buford, GA. Funeral services will be held on Monday, November 16, 2015 at 3:00 p.m. in the Chapel of Flanigan Funeral Home with Rev. Charles Pirkle officiating. Interment will follow at Memorial Park Cemetery in Gainesville, GA. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Sunday, November 15, 2015 from 2:00 p.m. until 4:00 p.m.
