Roy D. Loehr Jr

Obituary Date: Thursday, December 17, 2015

Roy D. Loehr, Jr., after a long struggle with Parkinson’s disease, went to meet his Savior in the presence of his wife and family on Thursday morning, December 17, 2015.  Roy was born in Lavonia, Georgia in 1938 to Roy D. Loehr Sr. and Rozelle Gables Loehr (both deceased).  He was the oldest of three children, with two younger brothers, William Asa Loehr (deceased) and Robert Clay Loehr.  He is survived by his loving and faithful wife of 56 ½ years, Lougene Carnes Loehr; two daughters Denise Loehr Wise (Roswell, Georgia) and Angela D. Loehr (Alexandria, Virginia) and brother, Robert Clay Loehr (Lavonia, Georgia) as well as many nieces and nephews, extended family and loving friends.

Roy was a man of great faith and an active member of Air Line Baptist Church with prior membership at Harmony Hall Baptist Church.  Roy actively served the Lord in a variety of roles over the years including Deacon, Senior Adult Men’s Bible teacher, Senior Adult leader, Brotherhood Director and on many committees.  Roy also served in the community as a Gideon, active member of Civitan Club, and with Georgia Baptist Disaster Relief.  Roy is a Veteran of the Armed Forces having served in the US Air Force.  After his education at North Georgia College and State University, in his professional career, Roy was a Certified Public Purchasing Officer and a National Governmental Purchasing Director.  He applied those skills as Director of Purchasing for Hall County, Purchasing Director at North Georgia College and State University in Dahlonega, Georgia and Director of Purchasing at Harris Calorific in Gainesville, Georgia.  Roy was active in several professional organizations including National Institute Governmental Purchasing (NIGP) and Governmental Procurement Association of Georgia (GPAG) serving in many positions including President of GPAG.  Roy also received multiple awards including the 1986 NIGP Presidents Award and GPAG’s 1997 Governmental Purchasing Officer of the Year.  After retiring Roy and Lougene continued their commitment to service in the church and community while also enjoying traveling, camping, gardening and spending focused time with their family.

Visitation and the funeral service will be at Memorial Park Funeral Home at 2030 Memorial Park Drive, Gainesville, GA 30504, with the family receiving between 2-4 and 6-8 on Friday, December 18, 2015 and services will be officiated by, Reverend Bradley Elliott, Reverend Clack Stubbs, and Reverend Scott Moore at Memorial Park Funeral Home Chapel on Saturday, December 19, 2015 at 2:00.  Interment will be immediately following the service in Franklin Memorial Gardens, 9589 GA-59, Lavonia, GA 30553.

Flowers are accepted or donations, in memory of Roy Loehr, can be made to the National Parkinson Foundation at 200 SE 1st Street, Suite 800, Miami, Florida 33131.
