Thomas E. Seay, MD, PhD died unexpectedly on Saturday, December 26, 2015. He was born December 9, 1951 in Athens, Georgia. He received a B.S. from University of Georgia, a Ph.D. in Biomedical Sciences from East Tennessee State University and an M.D from James H. Quillen College of Medicine in Johnson City, Tennessee. He practiced Medical Oncology for 25 years and was the President of Atlanta Cancer Care and a Managing Partner. Prior to joining ACC he was an Assistant Professor of Medicine at Emory University School of Medicine and Winship Cancer Institute. He devoted his life to the care of cancer patients and to the advancement of scientific research in oncology, insuring that patients throughout Georgia have access to clinical trials. He was the Principal Investigator for the Atlanta Regional Community Clinical Oncology Program. He served as Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Georgia Center for Oncology Research and Education. He was instrumental in the development of the Clinical Research Network in Georgia focused on the development of an integrated system of cancer care which included academic and community centers. He always enjoyed new challenges. It was after his military service that he decided to learn to fly a helicopter. He enjoyed his flights back and forth to his farm in Butler, Georgia, a place where he could get back to his rural roots. He was also a passionate animal lover. His wife said that he had a big heart and loved every living thing. He was preceded in death by his parents William F. Seay and Mary Garner Seay. He is survived by his wife Cindy Caray Seay, her daughter Alex, and many furry friends.
