Maurice Harold Johnston

Obituary Date: Tuesday, January 12, 2016

Maurice Harold Johnston was born on April 17, 1919 in Mineral Point MO to Charles and Clara Johnston. He passed away peacefully at his home Tuesday, January 12, 2016.

 

He was preceded in death by his parents, brother and sisters; daughter-in-law, Alice Johnston and grandson, Daniel Johnston.

 

He is survived by his wife of 73 years, Sybil Higgins Johnston; three sons and their wives, Dean and Wendy Johnston, Ken and Sally Johnston and Larry and Terri Johnston; sister, Katie Lewis. He also leaves behind 20 grandchildren, 18 great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

 

Mr. Johnston served in the Army Air Corps during World War II in India, China and Burma. He was an active member of St. Michael Catholic Church in Gainesville for many years. He loved his winters in Florida with Sybil and enjoyed the time they spent traveling in their many motor homes.

 

Visitation will be Thursday, January 14, 2016 at Little & Davenport Funeral Home from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Catholic Mass of Resurrection will be held on Friday, January 15, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Michael Catholic Church in Gainesville. Burial will be on Monday, January 18, 2016 at 12:30 p.m. at Georgia National Cemetery in Canton, GA.

 

In lieu of flowers the family request donations be made to St. Jude Children’s Hospital 501 St Jude Place Memphis, TN 38105
