John Garnet Owens, Jr

John Garnet Owens, Jr. 53, from Covington, GA, passed away Saturday, January 23, 2016, while visiting family in Cumming, GA.

Mr. Owens was born in Easley, SC, June 12, 1962, to the late Paula Lane Owen Baumann and John Garnet Owens Sr. John grew up attending Gwinnett County schools in Georgia.

Later, he enlisted in the Army, where he was stationed in California and New Jersey. After he left the service, he discovered a talent for cooking and became a chef while attending the Atlanta Technical College of Culinary Arts. John enjoyed a lifelong love of bowling, often as reigning champion. John also spent time reading science fiction and listening to rock music, although, as a younger man, he played the clarinet.

Mr. Owens is survived by his daughter, Garnet Elise Owens, of Owenton, KY, his father John Garnet Owens, Sr., of Cartersville, GA, and his brother Walter Ray Owens, of Cumming GA. John was also blessed to have two grandsons, Desmond and Lestat, both of Owenton, KY.

The family will hold a private service.
