Leo N. Whelchel

Leo N. Whelchel, 73, of Gainesville, peacefully entered into the presence of his Lord Jesus Christ on the afternoon of February 16, 2016.

Leo was born in Gainesville on August 7, 1942, the son of Ernest L. and Loraine Brown Whelchel. Leo retired from Chicopee Manufacturing Company in 1993 with over 25 years of service.

Leo was a member of Chicopee Baptist Church for 60 years. Chicopee Baptist Church was where his servant heart and giving spirit was used to glorify his Lord and Savior. He truly loved God and his church. He served selflessly in many capacities throughout the years including Deacon, treasurer, custodian and choir member.

Leo is survived by many cousins and his church family. He will be greatly missed.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, February 20, 2016 in the chapel of Little & Davenport Funeral Home. Rev. Phil Carpenter and Rev. Doug Collins will officiate. Interment will be in Alta Vista Cemetery with Rev. Darin Vogt officiating. The family will receive friends at Little & Davenport Funeral Home on Saturday, February 20, 2016 from Noon until the service hour.
