Morene Adams Sheriff

Mrs. Morene Adams Sheriff, age 96 passed away peacefully Thursday, March 31, 2016 at her home in Eastanollee, Georgia.

A daughter of the late Lawrence and Maude Crawford Adams, she was born on October 10, 1919 in Stephens County, Georgia.  She was the widow of the late Marvin Sheriff. 

She was retired from Coats and Clark with over 40 years of service. She was a member of the Tom’s Creek Baptist Church and the Maude Adams Sunday School Class.  She was affectionately known as “Nanny” to her 28 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren as well as many extended family members and she will be sorely missed as the “rock” of the family. 

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a son, Jimmy Sheriff, by two sons-in-law, Kermit Shore and Jimmy Smith, two sisters, Bonnie Faye Addison and Henrietta Segars and by a grandson, Steven Shore.

Survivors include her seven children, Irene Shore of Augusta, Georgia, Latrelle Todd and husband Kendall of Lawrenceville, Georgia, Jerry Sheriff and wife Judy of Toccoa, Georgia, Judy Looney and husband Roger and Truett Sheriff and wife Wanda both of Martin, Georgia, Marie Smith and Joe Sheriff and wife Sandy both of Lavonia, Georgia; brother and sister-in-law, Durward and Guinell Adams of Martin, Georgia; sister, Annie Jim Ayers of Martin, Georgia; 28 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren and 11 great-great grandchildren; brother-in-law, W.T. Segars of Toccoa; extended family member, Mary Jo Farmer; number of nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be Sunday, April 3, 2016, 2 O’clock PM at Tom’s Creek Baptist Church  with The Reverend Wayne Marcus and the Reverend Jerrell Beatty officiating.  Grandsons will serve as pallbearers, Ken Todd, Tony Owenby, Toby Owenby, Jamie Smith, Brett Sheriff and Matt Moore.

The family will be at the home, 3336 Highway 145, Eastanollee and will receive friends at the Acree-Davis Funeral Home on Saturday, April 2 from 6 PM until 8 PM.

Flowers are optional. Memorials may be made to the Tom’s Creek Baptist Church, 3604 Highway 145, Martin, Georgia 30557 in memory of Mrs. Morene Adams Sheriff.

Interment will follow in the Tom’s Creek Baptist Church Cemetery with the Acree-Davis Funeral Home in charge of the arrangements for Mrs. Morene Adams Sheriff.
