Evelyn H. Kephart

Obituary Date: Tuesday, April 26, 2016

Evelyn Haynes Kephart passed away on April 26, 2016, at age 99.  She would have been 100 years ago on July 27; she was born in1916.

 

She was a graduate of Chattahoochee High School in Clermont, Georgia.  She later graduated from Young Harris College and attended Athens Business College.  She and her husband worked for Davis Washington Lumber Company and after Mr. Washington’s death, they became co-owners of the company with Mr. Herbert Deaton, Sr.  Evelyn worked at the company until it closed in 1991.

 

After she retired, Evelyn and her sister, Ree Miller, spent several years traveling all over the world with the Fun Club at First National Bank.  She was active in the Eastern Star, Beta Sigma Phi Sorority and she and her husband were active members of Gainesville First United Methodist Church.  They were also members of the Chattahoochee Country Club.  

 

She was loved and admired by so many.  Evelyn was always beautifully dressed from head to toe.

 

She is predeceased by her parents, Mary and Benson Haynes; husband, Dewey N. Kephart; daughter, Nancy Louise Kephart; sisters, Leila H. Allen, Alice H. Tanner, Lillie Ree H. Miller, Ruth H. Phillips and brother, Ben Haynes. 

 

She is survived by several nieces, nephews and friends, including Mrs.  Ray Dean Mauney, Sr., Mr. and Mrs. Ray (Lisa) Mauney, Jr. and Lauren, Mr. and Mrs. Klay (Melissa) Simpson, K.J., and Carter who she considered part of her family. The family would like to express their thanks to Nancy Stewart for her devotion to her aunt.

 

Graveside services will be held at 3:00 p.m. Friday, April 29, 2016 at Alta Vista Cemetery with a Memorial service at 4:00 p.m. at Gainesville First United Methodist Church. Rev. Richard Evans and Rev. Kathy Lamon will officiate.   The family will receive friends in the Reception Hall following the service.
