Mr. Vernon Cecil “V.C.” Palmer, age 89 , of Dahlonega passed away on Tuesday, May 10, 2016 at Gold City Nursing Center following a period of declining health.
Born in Dahlonega on July 7, 1926 to parents William L. and Lona Grindle Palmer, V.C. had lived in Dahlonega all of his life with the exception of the time he served his country in the United States Army. He was the former owner and operator of Palmer Tire Company. V.C. was a member of Dahlonega Baptist Church. He was also a member of Blue Mountain Masonic Lodge #38, the Yaarab Shrine Temple and B.P.O.E (Elks) Lodge of Gainesville.
In addition to his parents, V.C. was preceded in death by siblings Wendell Palmer, Ernestine Holland and Bobby Palmer. He was also predeceased by daughter, Janet Lynn Palmer. He is survived by his wife, Pearl Todd Palmer, daughter and son-in-law, Alice and Dan Walls, all of Dahlonega, sisters-in-law; Mary Palmer, of Stone Mountain and Louise Mixon, Crowley, Texas. Brother-in-law, Marion Todd (Cynthia) of Gainesville, grandchildren; David Walls, Norcross, Amanda Wilhelm (Daniel), Acworth and Todd Walls of Athens, great-granddaughter; Allyson Wilhelm, of Acworth. A number of nieces, nephews and other relatives also survive.
Funeral services will be held Friday, May 13, 2016 at 2pm in the chapel of Dahlonega Funeral Home with Rev. Bill Hutcheson and Stephen Gerrells officiating. Interment will follow in Mt. Hope Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Thursday, May 12 from 6 until 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Dahlonega Baptist Church Building Fund, Eagle Ranch or the Georgia Baptist Children’s Home.
