Adger L. “Al” Nix, age 84, of Auburn and formerly of Habersham County, Georgia, passed away on Monday, May 16, 2016.
Mr. Nix was born on February 19, 1932, in Baldwin, Georgia, to the late C.C. and Fannie Williams Nix. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sisters, Diann Herrin, Evelyn Wright, and Gladys Harper and brothers, Charlie Nix, Jr., Lonnie Melvin Nix, Wayne Nix, and Dennis Nix. Al was a United States Army Veteran having proudly served his country during the Korean Conflict and was discharged with the rank of Sergeant. Mr. Nix was a graduate of Florida State University. He retired as Executive Vice President of Cotton States Insurance Company with 32 years of service. Mr. Nix was a member of the American Legion and the National Rifle Association. Al was a member of Union Grove Baptist Church in Gwinnett County.
Survivors include his loving wife of 61 years, Niva Geyer Nix, Auburn, GA; daughter and son-in-law, Gigi and David Cauthen, Dacula, GA; son and daughter-in-law, Dale Lewis and Giselle Nix, Lawrenceville, GA; sister, Janelle Darrah, Colorado; brother and sister-in-law, John and Darlene Nix, Las Vegas, NV; and grandchildren, Kathryn Nix, Jerill Nix, Ashleigh Cauthen, and Cody Cauthen.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 pm on Wednesday, May 18, 2016, at Whitfield Funeral Home, North Chapel, 245 Highway 441 South, Demorest, Georgia with Rev. Alan Hall officiating. Interment will follow in Yonah Memorial Gardens with military honors provided by the United States Army Honor Guard, the Grant Reeves VFW Post #7720, the Habersham County American Legion Post #84, and the Rabun County DAV Chapter #15.
The family will receive friends from 6-8 pm on Tuesday, May 17, 2016, at the funeral home.
