Rev. Gerald McCoy Jordan

Obituary Date: Thursday, May 19, 2016
Reverend Gerald McCoy Jordan of Gainesville, Georgia went home to be with the Lord on May 19, 2016.  He leaves behind his devoted wife of 61 years, Olene Talbert Jordan, his daughters, Linda Jordan Green and her husband Charles, of Knoxville, TN;  Geraldine (Jelly) Jordan Valimont and her husband, Randy of Griffin, GA;  Christy Jordan Meeks-Gaines and her husband, William (Billy), of Gainesville, GA.  He also leaves thirteen grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.  He was preceded in death by his parents, Alvin and Edith (Walker) Jordan; son-in-law, Steven Meeks; brothers, Edward Jordan, Fred Jordan, Vernon Jordan, Wayne Jordan, John Jordan, and Vernus Ray Jordan. He is survived by one sister, Treva Jordan Lassiter of McMinnville, Tennessee.

Reverend Jordan was born in McMinnville, Tennessee to a large family who spent most  of their years in farming and lumber. He learned at a young age how to work hard to provide for his family and carried that principle throughout his life.  He came to know Christ as his Savior in 1955 and answered the call to ministry in 1958 receiving his credentials with the Assemblies of God in 1959. Little did he know that his principle of hard work learned at a young age was only the beginning of a life of hard/loved work for the Lord Jesus Christ!

Reverend Jordan was a pastor at heart and spent his ministry life in pastoral ministry of Assemblies of God  churches.  He began his pastoral ministry with his young family in McMinnville, Tennessee at First Assembly of God. He then took the pastoral position at West Side Assembly of God in Nashville, Tennessee. He and his family later moved to Florida where he would continue his education at Southeastern Bible School and also pastor churches in Springhead and Haines City. Upon completion of his studies the family returned to their home state of Tennessee where he again was pastor of First Assembly of God in McMinnville and Island Home Assembly of Knoxville.

In 1972, Reverend Jordan again moved his family, this time to Gainesville, Georgia where he would spend many of the remaining years of ministry.  He was the senior pastor of First Assembly of God in Gainesville, 1972-1980.

In 1980, Rev. Jordan moved to Springdale, Arkansas, where he was senior pastor at First Assembly of God.  He remained there until 1984, when he returned to Gainesville. At that time, he started a new church, Evangel Assembly of God. It was here he served for the next 25 years. Only his declining health required him to retire from full time ministry in 2007.

Shortly before his retirement in 2007, Rev Jordan began a radio/internet ministry entitled, Wounded Healer Ministries that reaches around the world into many nations that are not served by traditional churches and pastoral ministry.

Rev Jordan became the Company Pastor-on-call for Cottrell, Inc., where he served 1984-2016.  There he ministered to the staff and developed a devotional program for the company and their employees.

During his years of pastoral ministry, Rev. Jordan was also heavily involved in missions work in Mexico, Honduras, Peru, Guatemala, Dominican Republic, Russia, and his great love, Armenia.

The family will receive friends at Memorial Park North on Saturday, May 21, 4:00-6:00PM and on Sunday, May 22, 4:00-4:45PM.  Service will be held at the Chapel of Memorial Park North Riverside Chapel  at 5:00PM.  The family will then travel to Tennessee where Rev Jordan will be lying in state at First Assembly of God in McMinnville Monday May 23, 2016 from 1:00 till 2:45 PM .
