James Ray McDonald

Evans Funeral Home announces the death of Mr. James Ray McDonald, age 83, of Winder, Georgia, who passed away on Saturday, June 12, 2016. Mr. McDonald was born in Statham, Georgia, a son to the late Walter A. McDonald and the late Mae Greenway McDonald. Mr. McDonald was a retired Engineer with the Georgia Department of Transportation, and along with his wife and two sons, and operated a successful Cattle Farm.  Mr. McDonald was a member of the Union Baptist Church in Winder, the Crusader Sunday School Class, the Jackson County Cattleman’s Association and the DOT Retiree’s Association. Mr. McDonald was a veteran of the U.S. Army serving in Germany. In addition to his parents, Mr. McDonald was preceded in death by his infant daughter, Mae Allene McDonald, brothers, Alan McDonald, William McDonald, Fred McDonald and step-mother, Ollie Austin McDonald.

Mr. McDonald is survived by his wife of 57 years, Betsy Hays McDonald of Winder; sons, Jimmy McDonald and his wife Anne of Winder, Andy McDonald and his wife Stephanie of Winder; 4 grandchildren, Beth, Susan, Will and Charlie; 5 nieces and 3 nephews also survive.

The Funeral Service will be held on Wednesday, June 15, 2016 at 11:00 AM in the Union Baptist Church with Dr. Rusty Newman and Dr. David Cook officiating. The burial will follow in the Union Baptist Church Cemetery with John Hayes, Chris Hayes, Mike Simmons, Shea Miller, Justin Bailey and Roger Mathis honored as pallbearers. The visitation will be held Tuesday evening, June 14, 2016 from 6 – 8 PM at the funeral home.
