M. Ben Mundy

Obituary Date: Monday, July 11, 2016

Ben Mundy of Oakwood, passed away at the age of 89 Monday July 11, 2016 at Northeast Georgia Medical Center.  Ben was born on February 23, 1927 to EC Mundy and Shellie Propes Mundy.    He is preceded in death by his wife of 60 years, Dr. Gwendolyn B. Mundy,  brother;  W. Horace Mundy, and sister; Mary Curtis Oliver.

He is survived by his son and daughter-in-law; Benjamin and Jan Mundy, granddaughters, Erin and Shannon Mundy, nieces Marcia Hammock and Jeanine Jackson, and nephew, Tom Oliver.

Ben graduated from Lyman Hall High School as the 1944 valedictorian and attended 2 years of college through UGA's off-campus program in Gainesville.  He retired from Hall County Farm Bureau as an Agency Manager in 1999 after 20 years of service.  Prior to Farm Bureau, Ben worked at Chicopee Manufacturing, The Lothridge Company, and was a Hall County Administrator.  He served as a Deacon Emeritus at Flat Creek Baptist Church in Oakwood, where he attended his entire life.  Ben led the choir at Flat Creek for 18 years, and he served and/or chaired numerous church committees as well as been a member of several church groups including TLP and the Golden Chorale senior adult choir.

The family would like to thank Dr. Tom Murray and staff, Southern Companions and The Waterford of Oakwood.  They would also like to thank the doctors, nurses, and techs of Northeast Georgia Medical Center for the compassionate care.  The family would also like to thank the members of Flat Creek Baptist Church for their constant support and help throughout Ben's life.

Visitation will be Wednesday, July 13 from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. at Little & Davenport Funeral Home.  Services will be held at Flat Creek Baptist Church Thursday, July 14 at 2:00 p.m.  The body will lie in state from 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. Thursday prior to the service.  Reverends Mike Taylor, Charles Jones, and Joe Vernon will officiate. Interment will be at the Flat Creek Baptist Church cemetery following the service.
