Robert (Bo) Young

Obituary Date: Tuesday, August 2, 2016

On August 2nd, 2016 , Our Lord called home his faithful servant and our precious loved one, Sergeant First Class (retired) Robert "Bo" Young.  Bo was born May 9th, 1937 in Gainesville, Georgia to the late Margaret Young as the fifth of six children.  He was preceded in death by four siblings, Mattie Osborne, Noble Young, Betty-Sue Randolph, and Nora Wilmont.

At an early age, Robert was baptized a member of Cross Plains Baptist Church in Gainesville.  As a young man, he attended Fair Street High School, playing the tuba in the marching band.

In 1955, Robert enlisted in the Army serving abroad in Korea and other locations until returning to Gainesville in 1958 where he continued to serve in the United States Army Reserves while working as a life guard at Fair Street Pool.  In 1964, Bo returned to the active duty Army and later served a tour in Vietnam with the 101st Airborne Division (Air Assault) in 1969.  Before departing for Vietnam, Robert married Malinda Lipscomb of Gainesville.  To this union two sons were born, Lance and Marc.

Later, Bo served in numerous military posts and retired from the Army in 1985.  Once retired, he continued to work hard, fish and cheer on his favorite football team, the Atlanta Falcons.  As a season ticket holder, he was an avid tailgater who loved to spend time with family and friends.  Furthermore, Robert had a tremendous work ethic and believed in the value of a hard day's work, friendship, honesty, candor, and the love of family.

Survivors include his loving wife, Malinda Young; sons, Dr. Lance Young and Lieutenant Colonel (retired) Marc (Dawn) Young; granddaughters, Shelby, Ryan, and Brooke; sister, Mary Jo Young; several nieces, nephews, cousins, and a host of other relatives and friends.

Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m. Saturday August 6, 2016 at the Cross Plains Baptist Church.  Interment will follow in the Memorial Park Cemetery with full military honors.  The family will receive friends at  Little & Davenport Funeral Home Friday August 5, 2016 from 6-8 p.m.
