John R. “Jack” Coffey

Obituary Date: Monday, August 1, 2016

Mr. John R. “Jack” Coffey, age 93, passed away on August 1, 2016, in Gainesville, Georgia.  He is preceded in death by his loving wife, Janice S. Coffey. 

He was a wonderful father and role model to his four children, Jeff Coffey (Peggy) of Lawrenceville, GA,   Jay Coffey (Gretchen) of Ball Ground, GA,  Jill Chase of Gainesville, GA and Jodie Agnew (Jim) of Winchester, Ohio.  He was a loving grandfather to 8 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren. 

Jack was born in Wisconsin Rapids, WI, moving to Norwood, OH with his family as a young child.  He served as a commissioned officer in the U. S. Army Air Corps during WW II as a B-24 pilot stationed in England.  Following his service, Jack attended the University of Cincinnati graduating in 1949 with a degree in Aeronautical Engineering.  His first job following graduation was with Aeronca Aircraft as a Quality Control Engineer.  Jack went to work with Armco Steel Corporation in 1952 progressing to Manager of Armco Systems Contracting in Cincinnati, OH, and finally retiring after 32 years of service.  After retiring, his love of golf lead him to be a golf course ranger at Chateau Elan in Braselton, GA.  He was a member of Candler United Methodist Church, Gainesville, GA.  His remains will be cremated with a memorial service to be scheduled at a later time.
