Carrol Mavis

Obituary Date: Sunday, August 28, 2016

Carrol Mavis went home to heaven on Aug. 28. He was born in Sisseton, SD on March 14, 1926 to the late Chester & Geneva Mavis. He graduated from Denfeld High School in Duluth, MN in 1944, enlisted in the Navy and became a corpsman, and was attached to the Marine Corps during the Korean War, where he was awarded the Bronze Star and Purple Heart. He married his wife Montine Sharp on March 28, 1947. Their son Scott was born in Aug. 1948 & son Bill was born in Oct. 1949. After his military career, he worked for Western Electric until his retirement in 1980. He was a 65-year member of the Barbershop Harmony Society. He sang with numerous choruses and quarters from Duluth, MN to Columbus, OH and Atlanta, GA. He is survived by his wife of 69 years, two sons Scott (Elizabeth), Bill (Bonnie), three grandsons Bryan (Stacie), Kevin (Emily), Andy (Brianna), and one granddaughter Leslie Biggs (Todd), and five great-grandchildren - Emily, Lauren, Gabe, Aidan and Nola and several cousins, nieces and nephews. A memorial service is scheduled for 2pm Sunday, Sept. 18, 2016 at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, 600 S. Enota Drive NE. Gainesville, Georgia 30501, with Pastor Zach Hoffman officiating. Burial will be at Memorial Park Cemetery attended by immediate family only. In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting donations be made to either The Red Cross or Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Carrol's name.  Online condolences can be made at www.memorialparkfuneralhomes.com.
