George Hutchens

Obituary Date: Wednesday, September 14, 2016

George Hutchens was born on August 31, 1946 in Gainesville. Georgia. He was the son of the late George Oscar Hutchens and Emma Law Hutchens Tutman.

George joined St. Paul United Methodist Church at an early age. He was a 1964 graduate of E.E. Butler High School. Later, he served a tour of duty with the 1st Infantry (Big Red 1) of the U.S. Army in Vietnam.  After being discharged from the Army, he attended and received a certificate in welding from Lanier Area Technical School.

George’s favorite past times were working in his yard during the Spring and Summer and decorating the yard during the Christmas holidays. He also enjoyed collecting and listening to music and watching professional basketball, football, and political programs on television. He especially liked GMC trucks, vintage cars and Corvettes.

George was preceded in death by his father, George Oscar Hutchens and his sister Emma Jo Hutchens Clark.

George is survived by his wife of nearly 46 years, Linda Rucker Hutchens; two daughters, Diane Rachelle Hutchens of Detroit, Michigan and Adrienne Hutchens Smith of Gainesville, Georgia; aunts, Honor Raye Hall, Alice Faye Law, Betty Joyce Owens, Dorothy Durant, and Bernice Thurmond; uncle, Edward Law ; brothers and sisters-in-law, Dr. Benjamin (Bendel) Rucker, Walter (Deanna) Rucker, Jonathan (Cynthia) Rucker and Bobbie Jean (Gary) Cox and a host of nephews, nieces, cousins, other relatives and friends.

The family will receive friends and visitors at Wimberly and Jackson Funeral Home Chapel on Monday, September 19, 2016 at 10:00 am. A Memorial Service is scheduled to follow  at 11:00 am.
