Shirley I. Wise Stephens

Mrs. Shirley I. Wise Stephens, widow of Delmer Stephens, passed away at her residence in Oakwood on Monday, September 19, 2016, following a lengthy illness.  She was 89 years old.

Funeral services are scheduled for Wednesday, September 21, 2016 at 4:00 pm in the Chapel of Memorial Park Funeral Home with interment to follow in Holly Springs Baptist Church Cemetery.  Reverend Earl Pirkle, Reverend Dwayne Ryals and Reverend Cecil Reeves will officiate.  The family will receive friends on Tuesday, September 20, 2016 from 6 – 9 pm at the funeral home.

Mrs. Stephens was born September 7, 1927 in Berwind, West Virginia to the late George Wise and Hattie Carver Wise.  She was a member of Central Baptist Church and spent many hours over the years donating her time at the Good Samaritan of Chattahoochee Baptist Association. Shirley was active in politics and spent time campaigning for her favorite candidates.  She was involved in the Hall County Citizens for Better Government and served four years on the Hall County Board of Equalization. 

Mrs. Stephens is survived by her children, Pat Taylor Farr of Oakwood, Brenda (Terry) Mize of Lula, Lynn (Jim) Matuska of Gillsville, Dennis (Jenny) Stephens of Fayetteville, North Carolina, Cyndi Stephens of Oakwood, John (Michelle) Stephens of Gainesville, step-daughter, Joy (Jerry) Tolley of Cullman, Alabama, 21 grandchildren, 31 great-grandchildren, 12 great-great-grandchildren and her best friend, Willie Mae McClure.
