Ray Pickens Bell

Obituary Date: Friday, December 2, 2016

Mr. Ray Pickens Bell, age 77 of Oakway Drive, Toccoa, GA, passed away Friday, December 2, at his residence.

A son of the late Elmer Pickens and Myrtie McClellan Bell, he was born August 17, 1939 in Anderson, SC having lived most of his life in Stephens County. He retired from Coats & Clark after 35 years of service. He was a member of the National Guard for 27 years in Belton, SC and Toccoa, a member of Ebenezer Baptist Church and an ordained Baptist Deacon, and a member of the Earl Rochester Sunday School Class that he attended as long as his health permitted. Also a Volunteer with the Rec. Department, he also enjoyed playing Softball with the Coats & Clark adult league. He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Leon Bell and Elmer Lee Bell.

Survivors include his wife of almost 53 years, Claudine Jamison Bell of the home, two daughters, Elaine (Bob) Dillashaw of Cornelia, GA, Lynn Smith of Toccoa, two sons, Don (Deana) Bell, David (Lisa) Bell  all of Toccoa, sister Mary Ann (Baxter) Ramsey of Belton, Sc, eleven grandchildren, Christopher Leon Bell, Samantha (Michael) Holman, Taylor Houston (Kyle) London, Brooke Bell, Natalie Houston, Zach Smith, Carly Bell, Hayden Bell, Haylee Ray Bell, Hanna Lou Bell, Houston Bell all of Toccoa, three great-grandchildren, Christina Bell, Channing Holman and Zayn Dooley, and a number of nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be 2 PM Sunday, December 04, 2016 at the Hillcrest Chapel of Acree-Davis Funeral Home with the Reverend John Thomas officiating.  The family will be at the home and will receive friends at the funeral home on Saturday from 2 until 4 and 6 until 8 PM.  Grandsons will serve as pallbearers.

Interment will be in the Stephens Memorial Gardens with the Georgia National Guard and the V.F.W. Post 4346 in charge of Military Rites.
