Bernard (Bernie) Francis Kirbach

Obituary Date: Friday, December 30, 2016

Bernard Francis Kirbach “Bernie” passed away on December 30, 2016 after an extended illness.  He was born on February 8, 1929 in Elmhurst, Illinois.
He served in the U.S. Army from 1951-1953 during the Korean Conflict.  Upon receiving his discharge from the service, he finished his college education with a Bachelor’s Degree from the University of Illinois.

He retired in 1991 from the 3M Company with 32 years of service.  His assignments took him to Chicago, Minneapolis, Detroit and Atlanta. He spent the last 17 years in Georgia as the Eastern Regional Sales Manager.

He was a member of First Baptist Church and the Angler’s Sunday School Class.  He was also a member and volunteer of the Family Life Center.  He served on the Board of Directors at the Guest House and also volunteered there.  He was avid golfer, playing since the age of 13, and enjoyed reading and traveling.

He was preceded in death by his parents Matt and Agnes Kirbach, brother Matt Kirbach, and his first wife Donna Lee Kirbach.  Survivors include his wife Carol Mundy Kirbach; daughter Karen Kirbach of Raliegh, North Carolina; sons Dr. Peter Kirbach (Rebecca) of Bangor, Maine and Dr. Steve Kirbach (Morna) of Asheville, North Carolina; stepson Tommy Mundy of Cleveland, Georgia; stepdaughter Pat Wages of Cumming, Georgia; sister-in-law Kay Bell of Gainesville, Georgia; grandchildren Ezra and and Grey Kirbach, Anastasia and Penelope Kirbach, step grandchildren Ansley Hersey, Cindy Mundy, Will Wages, Carly Wages, and step great grandsons Hayden Mundy and Felix Hersey. 

A private service will be held at the Columbarium at First Baptist Church of Gainesville at 10:30 am Thursday January 5, 2017 with Reverend Bruce Fields officiating.  Visitation will be held at First Baptist Church Parlor at 11:00am.  The family will then gather for lunch at Longstreet Cafeteria in Gainesville, where any friends who wish to may join.
