Bimbo Brewer

Obituary Date: Thursday, January 5, 2017

Bimbo Brewer, loving husband and father, doting grandfather, storytelling raconteur, community character and cowboy, finished this part of the race on January 5, 2017.

James Camp Brewer was born May 29, 1943 to Fred L. and Gaynelle Gaines Brewer. He was a lifelong Gainsvillian, Baptist, Red Elephant and Bulldog. For 52 years, he was married to the former Nancy Martin. For most of those years, he used his word pictures to provide her darkened eyes a glimpse of the world.

He attended both the University of Georgia and North Georgia College where he honed the writing skills that would serve him as a staff writer for The Times and in other writing endeavors throughout his life.

He had a way with horses and, with his daughter, Erin, competed in some of America’s top Western horse shows.

In 1991, he launched a radio career with WDUN as host of Fun at Four and Five. His folksy manner was well received among the radio audience and the show enjoyed years of success.

He later entered the law enforcement field and provided support and comfort to crime victims and their families through the Hall County Sheriff’s Office.

Perhaps the greatest chapter of his life was written as grandfather to Ben and Jackson Still, who he loved dearly and was the greatest cheerleader at their sporting events.  He also taught them how to be ushers at First Baptist Church.

In addition to his wife, daughter, and grandsons, he is survived by his brother, Fred Brewer and wife, Kay, of Clermont; his son-in-law Blue Still, and sister-in-law Harriett Hulsey and her husband, Juke. A number of nieces and nephews also survive.

He was preceded in death by his parents, beloved grandmother Ms. Hassie Gaines and an old Dodge truck.

A service to celebrate a life well-lived will be held at 11:00am on Tuesday January 10, 2017 the First Baptist Church on Green Street, where he earned the rank of Eagle Scout, and served as a deacon, usher, and Sunday school teacher in the Anglers class. The family will receive friends from 5:00 pm – 7:00 pm on Monday January 9, 2017 at Memorial Park North Riverside Chapel.  Online condolences can be made at www.memorialparkfuneralhomes.com.
