Joseph Leonard Swofford

Joseph Leonard Swofford, age 73, of Suwanee, GA, passed away on Saturday, January 14, 2017. Joe was born in 1943, to the late Leonard and Ida Mae Swofford. He was a member of Shady Grove Baptist Church in Suwanee, GA. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his brothers and sister-in-law, Jack (Joan) Swofford, William Swofford, and James Swofford; sister, Dannie Bailey.

He is survived by his loving wife, Betty Swofford of Suwanee, GA; daughters and son-in-law, Joyce (Mark) Whiten of Gainesville, GA, and Virginia Swofford of Suwanee, GA; granddaughter, Shaye Whiten of Suwanee, GA; brothers and sisters-in-law, Robert (Cathrine) Swofford of Cleveland, GA, Lee (Barbara) Swofford of Ellijay, GA, Ray Swofford of Cumming, GA, and Miles (Joanna) Swofford of  Toccoa, GA; sisters and brothers-in-law, Mary (Herman) Owens of Walnut Grove, GA, and Fannie (Marvin) Samples of Ellijay, GA; sister-in-law, Nancy Swofford of Jefferson, GA; along with several  other nieces and nephews.

Funeral services for Mr. Swofford will be held Thursday, January 19, 2017, at 11:00 a.m. at Shady Grove Baptist Church in Suwanee, GA, with Rev. Alan Swafford, and Rev. Joseph Martin officiating. Interment will follow at Shady Grove Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Wednesday, January 18, 2017, from 6:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. and Thursday, at Shady Grove Baptist Church from 10:00 a.m. until the hour of service.

In lieu of flowers, the family ask that donations be made to help offset the funeral expenses.
