Robert H. “Bob” Hansman

Obituary Date: Saturday, February 11, 2017

Robert H. “Bob” Hansman, age 76, of Cumming, Georgia passed away peacefully on Saturday, February 11th with his wife, Barbara and daughter, Jenny at his side.  Bob was born in Bremerton, Washington to Cecil and Thelma Hansman on August 21, 1940.  A graduate of Central Washington State University, Bob went on to proudly and honorably serve his country in the U.S. Air Force, retiring as a Captain after serving around the globe, including an extended station in Okinawa, Japan. Bob met and married Barbara Bingham Hansman in 1968 in Tallahassee, Florida before going on to earn his MBA from Florida State University in 1970.  After graduation, Bob began what became a distinguished, 30-year career with the Internal Revenue Service in Atlanta, GA, retiring in 1996 as Communications Chief of the Southeast Division.  Bob and Barbara, members of the Allgood Road Methodist Church in Stone Mountain, moved to Cumming at retirement and have enjoyed life together there to the fullest these past 21 years.

Retaining a lifelong love of 1950’s music and the Pacific Northwest, Bob traveled back to Washington State each summer to visit with his family there, as well as to camp out with his high school classmates, members of the Port Angeles High School “Rough Riders” of 1958, an annual adventure he always looked forward to with anticipation.  Bob had a special place in his heart for people, and could often be found walking his dog in the neighborhood with friends, or playing tennis, where he would discuss his favorite sports teams, including the Braves, the Falcons, Duke University, FSU, GA Tech, UGA, and Auburn.  Bob also loved technology and watched with expectation for each new advancement in computing, automobiles, and science.  His favorite thing to do for someone was to give them the latest gadget, and in his Grove Park Community neighborhood, he was known as the resident IT expert, spending considerable time over the years helping others with their computers.

Bob loved his family most of all, but will be greatly missed by everyone who knew him.  He is survived by his devoted wife of 48 years, Barbara; Daughter and Son-in-law, Jenny and Scott Bryant, along with his grandchildren, Abby and Noah Bryant of Roswell, GA; Sister and Brother-in-law Barbara and Bill Ellis of Sequim, Washington; Brother-in-law, Dr. Frasier O. Bingham of Bainbridge, GA; his nephew and niece, Charles Bingham of Lighthouse Point, FL and Britt and John Springer of Boone, NC; his niece and nephew-in-law, Julianna and Gary Pinnell, of Sequim, WA; his nephew, Mark Ellis of Sequim, WA; and of course, his Faithful Canine Companion, “Taco.”

The family will receive friends from 12:30pm to 1pm on Saturday February 18, 2017 at McDonald And Son Funeral Home.  A service in celebration of Bob’s life will follow at 1pm.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Bob’s honor to the charity of your choice.
