Colby Paul Clements

Obituary Date: Tuesday, May 23, 2017

Colby Paul Clements of Gainesville, Georgia passed away on May 23, 2017. He was a beloved son, brother, friend, and relative with extended family in Utah, Michigan, and Arizona. Colby, lovingly referred to by all that knew him as Viking, was a 2009 Georgia Tech graduate…and he wouldn’t let you forget it. If laughter is truly the best medicine, then Colby treated all that knew him on a regular basis. From one-liners to lengthy monologues, he’d have you crying on the floor, and those are the only kind of tears he would want to see from you now.

But Colby wasn’t all comedy. Can you name the back-up right guard for the Bengals in 2015? Colby could, and tell you where he went to college, among a million other statistics. His sports knowledge was unmatched, likely the only man who could Stump the Schwab. He’s spiked more hats than Spurrier in Tech losses over the years, and has watched more golf than Tiger or Phil could ever play. He took his sports prowess to the next level as the reigning commissioner for all fantasy sports leagues. Apparently those who can’t win, commish. With weekly league notes throughout the season, no one was safe from the satire.

His list of unique talents and interests only continues. The man loved his microwave, but he could make a mean deviled egg. He loved music of all genres, landing him the title of group DJ more often than not. He would tell you that he was a Jeopardy champion, and that his favorite animal was the rhino… just don’t believe the first part. It’s easy to see there was so much to Colby, and he was so much to so many.

One friend recently described him as larger than life, and that’s exactly what he was. Kind, spirited, fun, sensitive – and stubborn as a mule – all rolled up in humor. His charisma commanded the room, and he certainly never met a stranger. To say he will be missed is not enough. He will be remembered, cherished, and loved always.  In Colby’s honor, try to make someone laugh today, and everyday.
