Marion B. McCaskill

Obituary Date: Sunday, June 4, 2017

Funeral services are scheduled for 2:00 p.m. Thursday June 8, 2017 at Ward’s Funeral Home Chapel for Marion B. McCaskill, age 99 of Murrayville.  The Rev. Charles Green will officiate. Interment will follow at Alta Vista Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 12:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Mrs. McCaskill passed away June 4, 2017.

Mrs. McCaskill was born in Buffalo, NY. She graduated from the Art Institute of Buffalo and was a curator in the photographic dept. at the Buffalo Museum of Science and taught children art classes. During WWII she was a photographer for Bell Aircraft and took photos of the first jet landing at Bell Airport. While raising their family in Jacksonville, NC she was a photographer for the newspaper and covered events locally and at the Camp Lejeune Marine Corp Base. She founded the first Girl Scout troop in Onslow County, NC and became the president of the Girl Scout Council of Coastal Carolina. Marion and her husband Wayne of 62 years were of the Presbyterian faith. They retired in Franklin, NC, where she was an active member of the Macon County Art Association and past president.

Survivors are, her son Earl R. McCaskill  and daughter-in-law Mary of Boiling Springs, SC, a son Raymond G. McCaskill of Murrayville, GA; grandchild and spouse, Jennifer and Luke Bolton of Murrayville, GA and great-grandchildren Joab and Julie; grandchild and spouse Robert McCaskill and Kristen of Murrayville, GA and great-grandchild Braden, grandchildren Meghan McCaskill of Hartford, CT, Elliott McCaskill of Sandersville, Ga, Lauren McCaskill of Tallahassee, FL, grandchild and spouse Hillary and William Lee of Orange Park, FL and great-grandchild Grayson, grandchild and spouse Jeannie and Chris Rucker of Boiling Springs, SC and grandchild Fred Phillips and great-grandchild Brittany Philips of Miami, FL.

Marion was preceded in death by her son Carlton W. McCaskill, her husband Roger Wayne McCaskill and daughter-in-law Linda McCaskill all of Gainesville, GA.

Mrs. McCaskill took an aerial photograph from a C-46 transport during WWII, of a Bell P-63 King Cobra, which was restored and currently being maintained. In lieu of flowers, she requests donations to the: Commemorative Air Force- The Dixie Wing, Attn: Col. Jay Bess, 1200 Echo Ct, Peachtree City, GA 30269.
