Mazie Harrison

Mrs. Mazie Maxene McFarlin Harrison, age 77 of Skyline Drive in Toccoa passed away Saturday, July 8, 2017 at her home. 

A daughter of the late Alfred and Katie Garner McFarlin, she was born April 11, 1940 in

Stephens County, Georgia and was reared in the Red Hill Community.  Her husband was a Sergeant in the U.S. Air Force so the family lived on Air Force Bases in many States and in the Philippines for three years.  The family returned to the Toccoa/Stephens County area where Mazie lived for the majority of her life.  She graduated from Greenleaf Business College in Atlanta and later had a variety of jobs.  She worked as a secretary for several businesses and was also a homemaker.  She was the Secretary and Treasurer for The V.F.W. Post 4346 Ladies Auxiliary for several years, was a member of Ebenezer Baptist Church, and had attended Mullins Ford Baptist Church for the past several years.  She loved traveling with James, the beach, and her family; especially her grandson Jeremiah.  Mazie was the last surviving member of her immediate family and in addition to her parents was preceded in death by her husband, Sergeant William “Bill” Harrison, and by six brothers and four sisters; Reverend Hollis McFarlin, Charlie McFarlin, Billy McFarlin, Dan Russell McFarlin, Henry Ray McFarlin, Carl McFarlin, Morene Robinson, Frances Sheriff, Lucille McFarlin, and Alfie Jackson.

 

She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Pam and Mike Williams of Martin, Ga., her son, James Richard “Ricky” Harrison of Austell, Ga., her grandson, Jeremiah Williams of Martin, Ga., her longtime companion of thirty years, James Gulley, and by several nephews, nieces, great-nephews and nieces.
